Country singer and songwriter Will Moseley was recently named the runner-up of American Idol season 22 in the finale that released on Sunday, May 19, on ABC. Will constantly remained a fan-favorite throughout his run on the show because of his one-of-a-kind raspy voice that was fitting for the country genre.

The judges of the show, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, also always had great things to say about Will since they first heard him perform at the auditions. He was a tough contender for his contemporaries but was also a loving fellow contestant to them.

Will had freshly graduated from university before entering American Idol season 22.

Will Moseley was born on July 10, 2000, and was raised in Hazlehurst, Georgia. He went to Maryville College in Tennessee, where he played football for two seasons on the offensive line. After suffering three concussions, Will decided to quit football and pursue music.

Speaking to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the artist mentioned that he learned to play the guitar in college. He then moved to Georgia Southern University to focus on his career in the music industry. In an interview with the publication, Will said:

"I was on YouTube learning how to play the guitar. And someone said if you sing, it will help your rhythm playing guitar."

This was when Will started singing and his friends assured him that he had a knack for it. He then began writing and performing songs during his time at Georgia Southern. After graduating with a degree in biology, Will gave himself 12 months to pursue a music career before looking for jobs, as per Life & Style magazine. That fall, he auditioned for the reality show and went on to become a crowd favorite.

Will Moseley gave an unforgettable performance during the auditions as he chose to sing an original song- Gone for Good. All three judges wanted him on the show and he progressed smoothly throughout the competition.

A staunch Chris Stapleton fan, Will sang three of his songs during his journey on season 22: Whiskey and You, Starting Over, and The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy.

He would love to collaborate with Stapleton and told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the artist was the "best songwriter" of his generation.

"He’s an absolute freak of nature in that sense. Stapleton is also a great performer and to be able to have a conversation much less work with the guy would be amazing," he said.

During his time on the show, Will also chose to sing tracks by Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Otis Redding, and Bill Withers. In the finale, he sang It's My Life by Bon Jovi and My Town by Montgomery Gentry. He also performed his own track called Good Book Bad. All his performances were commended by the judges, the guests, and the audience.

After being announced as the runner-up, Will penned a note on Facebook, which read:

"Feeling incredibly blessed to have been apart of this amazing journey. Finishing this journey on a high note and this is just the beginning! Get ready America, because this is just the launch pad of my music career. Here comes Will."

Abi Carter emerged victorious on American Idol season 22, beating Will Moseley and Jack Blocker.
