Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago has declared that he will have comprehensive talks with manager Jose Mourinho before making a decision on his future and whether he will ask for a transfer.
Gago was a much sought after player a couple of years ago, and was brought to Madrid for a hefty sum of 18 million pounds amidst much fanfare and hype, as most Madrid signings are. The former Boca Juniors man started his Los Blancos career quite brightly, putting in many eye catching performances and justifying his price tag.
However, as time went by, Gago failed to acclimatise himself to Madrid’s style of play and was pushed down the pecking order fairly quickly. He rarely got chances to perform and was shuttled regularly between the first team and the reserves. The unlucky midfielder was then struck by a succession of injuries escalating in severity, and that restricted his role in the team further. With Jose Mourinho expected to beef up the midfield further this summer, opportunities at Madrid look bleak for Gago.
Gago though, has declared that he has not thought about what he will do yet, and will consider his options only after a detailed discussion with the coach. He is convinced that he is fit enough to play at the top level.
Speaking to TyC Sports, he said-
“Having so many injuries has never happened before in my life. I will talk to Mourinho to decide what I will do,”
Although he seems heavily inclined towards a return to his native Argentina and original employers Boca. He said-
“Boca Juniors is where I grew up and is like my second home.”
“I know everybody at the club and really feel at home there. It is not easy for me that I am all alone here in Europe and I am eager to return to Argentina.”
“We will have to look at my sporting options, but it looks as if I will stay in Europe for now. I have a great desire to return to Boca, though. I simply love the jersey and it is very hard to explain my feelings towards the club. It is not just my decision, as a lot depends on what Real Madrid wants.”
Gago has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past few weeks, but he played down those reports and said that he knew nothing about these rumours.
“No-one has talked to me,”
Gago seems destined to ply his trade elsewhere next season. Stay tuned to find out where.
