A big news for the fans of Sourav Ganguly: Sourav may play the IPL 5 as the ‘mentor cum skipper’ for the Pune Warriors. Though the news is not fully confirmed, the Pune team officials have said on the record that Ganguly is set to get a ‘bigger role’ in the next IPL season. “Nothing has been finalised as yet, but it’s almost certain that Sourav will be given a bigger role this time in IPL-V,” Abhijit Sarkar, team director of Pune Warriors, was quoted saying to MiD DAY.
There were similar stories earlier in the Bengali media but this is the first time that the team director of the Pune IPL team has confirmed the talks about a ‘bigger role’ for Sourav. Pune Warriors was also the team which gave a chance to ‘dada’ to play in the last IPL season when Kolkata Knight Riders snubbed Sourav by not buying him at the auction. Sourav played four match for the Warriors as a replacement for Asish Nehera.
Even being out of cricketing arena for long, Sourav gave a decent performance on his IPL comeback. This time, it seems, he will play a larger role for a longer period of time.
The final decision in this regard will be taken after Sourav returns from England where he was on an assignment as a TV commentator. Pune, which finished 9th in the last season will look to gain from vast experience of Sourav.
