One of the many reasons behind the thrilling 2012 F1 season that we have had so far is due the many goof-ups by the McLaren pit crew. Current championship leader Lewis Hamilton, had to bear the brunt of these goof-ups on a number of occasions this season. Even his girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger lost her cool after a shoddy pit-stop at the recently concluded Canadian Grand Prix. Thankfully, Lewis managed to win the race. However, it seems like the McLaren management have had enough with these erroneous pit stops and have come up with an unique incentive for their pit crew if they shorten the duration of their pit stops in the upcoming races.
McLaren Sporting Director Sam Michael said, ‘The challenge is to beat three seconds and they’ve got motivation because I’ve already offered the whole team a round of beers the moment they average that.’
So, if the McLaren pit crew do their job efficiently for the rest of the 2012 F1 season and bring down the average time duration of their pit stops, they will be rewarded with a round of beer. As simple as that! Wonder if it will have any impact at all on the crew. Because, they have been improvising throughout this season to spoil the races for both Hamilton and Button.
