Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he will not make a fresh approach for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney before the two sides meet on Monday.
Chelsea have already had two bids for the striker rejected by United but have made Rooney their top priority in this transfer window, which has a September 2nd deadline.
Mourinho has not given up hope of signing Rooney but insists he does not want to unsettle the former Everton player by creating more headlines ahead of the clash between United and Chelsea.
“I don’t want Chelsea to do it before we go there,” Mourinho said, speaking after his side’s narrow 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
“Everybody in the club, in the board, they agree with me. They share that opinion. There is time to do things we did before, we will do later.
“But I think this period, by the ethical point of view, is a period where we’re going to be quiet.”
