WWE news and notes: 30th September - Part 2

Ken Anderson

  • Former WWE star Ken “Mr. Kennedy” Anderson, who competes for TNA now as Mr. Anderson, recently did an angle that saw him get “injured” off a piledriver from TNA World Champion Bully Ray. This was done to remove him from TV for a bit, as his contract was coming to an end and he hadn’t come to a new deal. Immediately, rumors of whether or not he would go back to WWE started, but Anderson did a recent interview with 4th & Pain and said he plans to re-sign with TNA within the next week, and the thought of signing with another promotion really hadn’t crossed his mind. Another chance with WWE wouldn’t have been likely anyway, as Anderson burned his bridges with the company after a run that saw him repeatedly get injured, injure other wrestlers, and lie about using performance-enhancing drugs.
  • The Rhodes family will be returning to RAW tonight, playing a role in the current Triple “power trip” storyline, and are being given a platform to speak their mind. Triple H also has a lucrative offer he plans on giving them. The details of the offer haven’t been revealed, but likely involve some kind of match that will have a stipulation regarding Cody Rhodes getting his job back. The current rumor for the match seems to be the Rhodes family (Dustin, Cody and Dusty) vs. The Shield in a 6-man, possibly at Battleground. Speaking of Cody, he has agreed to wrestle for independent promotion Pro Wrestling Syndicate, as a way to further the storyline that he really was fired by WWE. Cody has already begun hyping the appearances via Twitter, as has PWS themselves, confirming the angle. PWS is likely getting a hefty sum from WWE for this project, and in turn may also scout talent from PWS in the future.
  • Also tonight on RAW, we will get the long-awaited debut of Los Matadores. As I’ve said in previous articles, the identities of these two men are Primo and Epico, although they will likely have different individual names for this gimmick.
  • As announced on Smackdown, the stipulation for Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam at Battleground for the World title will be that it is a Hardcore Match.
  • Recently, plans for the 20th anniversary of RAW DVD and Blu-Ray were canceled for unknown reasons. It looks like another DVD/Blu-Ray set may join the canceled bin, as WrestlingDVDNews.com is reporting that the Best of Pay-Per-View Matches 2013 set may be scrapped. This is surprising, as WWE releases one of these sets pretty much every year. The match listing still exists, however, so there is a chance it may still see the light of day.
  • WWE has published an article on the five men who pinned Goldberg during his career, likely to hype the upcoming DVD set about “Da Man”. The five in question are Kevin Nash, Bret Hart, Booker T, Scott Steiner and Triple H, all multi-time World Champions.
  • John Cena is being advertised for a “special appearance” at a live event on December 26th at Madison Square Garden. However, he will not be wrestling, as he is not expected to be cleared for in-ring action until at least January or February.
  • Starting tonight on RAW, all divas will be wearing pink ring gear in order to promote WWE’s “Rise Above Cancer” program that they have partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for. For those that don’t know, Ocotber is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”.
  • Last night, I mentioned a controversial promo from NXT star Buddy Murphy. Apparently, WWE has taken more notice of the video and, through a copyright claim, have had the video completely removed from YouTube. It will be interesting to see what happens to Murphy from this point. Although the promo was scripted, some of the comments were over the line.
