Feliciano Lopez: A Brief Biography
Feliciano López Diaz-Guerra is a professional tennis player who was the first male Spanish tennis player to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon since 1972. Lopez defeated Tim Henman at the 2007 Wimbledon second round in what would be Henman\'s last Wimbledon match. In 2009, he played the then-longest match in Australian Open history, losing to Gilles Müller, before the Novak Djokovic–Rafael Nadal final and Rafael Nadal-Fernando Verdasco semifinal eclipsed it in time. He made his Grand Slam debut at the 2001 French Open, losing to Carlos Moyá. He won his first title at the 2004 Bank Austria-TennisTrophy defeating Guillermo Cañas in the finals. In 2008, he helped the Spanish Davis Cup team to win the title against Argentina by beating Juan Martín del Potro. The nect year he won another title at the Open Castilla y León Challenger event, beating Adrian Mannarino. Lopez also played a key role for the Spain Davis Cup team, helping them win the 2009 Davis Cup with doubles wins in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. In the 2010 SA Tennis Open, he beat Stéphane Robert to claim his second ATP-level title. Lopez is left-handed and uses a single-handed backhand.
