On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, double amputee Oscar Pistorius has revealed on his website that he is still deeply saddened about the incident that took place a year ago, where his shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius stated, “No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved - and continues to love Reeva.
“The pain and sadness – especially for Reeva’s parents, family and friends consumes me with sorrow.
“The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was charged with murder after he shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home on Valentine’s Day last year.
Pistorius is known as “Blade Runner” as he uses carbon fibre prosthetic blades and won gold medals in the 4 x 100 metre relay and 400 metre individual events at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
It was also revealed on the website that Pistorius’ family have taken the decision to devote his official website to the latest news about developments and messages of support regarding the mishap.
Pistorius’ uncle, Arnold Pistorius, said on behalf of the family: “We believe that this is an appropriate way to deal with the expressions of support we have received as well as keeping the media informed about any key developments in the case.
“We have every confidence as a family that when the world has heard the full evidence that this will prove to be a terrible and tragic accident which has changed many lives forever. We are praying for everyone touched by this tragedy.”
