Sammy Guevara made his long-awaited and rather surprising return to Ring of Honor. The Spanish god showed up at the most recent ROH tapings and helped out Dustin Rhodes as he was being attacked by the Dark Order.

First of all, that caught all the fans by surprise. The former Jericho Appreciation Society member had been away for a few months as he was suspended after accidentally injuring former AEW star Jeff Hardy while the latter was still with the company.

In this article, we will be taking a look at three possible reasons why Tony Khan put Sammy Guevara on ROH instead of AEW.

#3. Mercedes Mone factor

Mercedes Mone is a marquee name in AEW right now, and rightly so. She is a top draw and is also a double champion as she holds the TBS and NJPW Strong Women’s titles.

Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE

Sammy Guevara had made some derogatory comments about the former WWE star in the past and was even suspended in 2020. Tony Khan is a shrewd boss and must have thought it would be a good thing to keep the two of them out of each other’s sight.

To his credit, Sammy apologized for his past comments about Mone and underwent sensitivity training as part of his original suspension.

#2. A stacked roster

AEW is on a roll right now. After a very successful Forbidden Door event with many surprises, there seems to be a feel-good factor about the place. On top of that, the roster is currently stacked heading into All In 2024.

With the roster being that well stacked from all sides, bringing back Sammy Guevara could have been counterproductive if he was not going to be involved in a major feud. With all the title matches all but made up, it was a good thing to hold back Sammy’s return to AEW for now.

#1. Tony Khan might be punishing Sammy Guevara

This is a reason that could very well be true, although Tony Khan hasn't been known to punish wrestlers with demotions in the past. Guevara has been accused of being careless in the ring, and his match with Jeff Hardy only strengthened that assumption.

He broke Jeff’s nose by accident, and that turned out to be the match after which Sammy was suspended for a few months. Sending him to Ring of Honor could be a wise move on AEW’s part as that would put Sammy away from the attention while at the same time give him ample time to work on his skill set and come back a better and safer wrestler.
