When we talk about the most popular stars on the current WWE roster, Kevin Owens' name is bound to come up. The Prizefighter is known for his aggressive and charismatic personality, which captivates the fans every time he steps foot in the squared circle.
The 40-year-old star previously found success in multiple wrestling promotions around the world. However, The Prizefighter has remained with WWE for over the last decade, making him one of the most reliable assets to the company.
Owens' current deal with the Stamford-based promotion will reportedly expire in early 2025.
Interestingly, the former WWE Universal Champion is expected to receive an offer from AEW if and when his deal expires. While Owens does have many connections in the Tony Khan-led company, certain factors indicate that he might end up staying with the Stamford-based promotion.
In this article, let's look at three reasons why Kevin Owens may not leave WWE for AEW.
#3. Kevin Owens is well-recognized as a Triple H guy
Kevin Owens is a complete package, who is equally excellent on the microphone as he is in the squared circle. Despite facing his fair share of struggles in WWE, The Prizefighter has always been recognized for his hard work and dedication to his craft.
Triple H has been a huge admirer of Kevin Owens since the latter first started out in NXT. The two veterans are also very close in kayfabe, as it was The Cerebral Assassin who helped Owens win the Universal Championship in 2016.
Since taking over the reins of the WWE creative, The Game has ensured that Owens is consistently featured in major storylines. Considering the trust that Triple H has shown in the former Universal Champion, there is no reason why Owens would want to part ways with the Stamford-based promotion.
The Anti-Christ of Pro Wrestling played a gamble on his career when he decided to re-sign with the Vince McMahon-led regime in 2022. Despite not getting a consistent push, Owens chose to continue wrestling for WWE. Now that he has firmly re-established himself as a main event talent, a move to AEW seems to be out of the equation.
#2. Kevin Owens has been booked quite strongly in the last two years
Usually, a wrestler opts to switch companies when he becomes dissatisfied with his role in his current promotion. However, Kevin Owens has luckily not faced such issues under the Triple H-led regime.
The Prizefighter had an impactful run in the Stamford-based promotion from 2015-2017, winning several prestigious titles over the course of three years. The next few years saw Owens struggle to get featured in prominent storylines. The former NXT Champion made a surprising decision to renew his deal with the Vince McMahon-led regime in early 2022.
The decision turned out well for The Prizefighter, as he soon reclaimed his top spot on the main roster.
With Triple H becoming the new head of creative, Kevin Owens has got significantly more opportunities to showcase his talent. From rarely getting any TV time to main-eventing two consecutive WrestleMania's, the Anti-Christ of Pro Wrestling has witnessed a career resurgence in the last couple of years.
A few weeks ago, the 40-year-old star competed at WWE Bash in Berlin, where he challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Having risen to prominence in WWE over the last two years, The Prizefighter would be tempted to continue honing his craft in WWE.
#1. Owens might get lost in the shuffle in AEW
A move to All Elite Wrestling would surely be a tempting prospect for Kevin Owens. From Adam Cole to The Young Bucks, there are many old buddies that Kevin Owens would like to reunite with in AEW. The wrestling-centric environment of the Tony Khan-led company would also complement The Prizefighter's aggressive in-ring style.
Kevin Owens is friends with company EVPs The Young Bucks. They were also part of a stable called 'Mount Rushmore of Wrestling' a stable which also included the likes of Adam Cole. Therefore, given the Young Bucks' position, they will definitely put in a good word with Tony Khan to try and hire KO.
Tony Khan has been interested in bringing The Prizefighter to the Jacksonville-based promotion for a long time. The head booker of AEW will surely offer a deal to Owens once his current contract with WWE expires.
However, Owens may struggle to find a secure spot on the AEW roster, which is in a bloated state at the moment. Despite signing many prominent free agents in the last few years, the Jacksonville-based promotion has not been able to utilize its talent pool to its fullest potential.
Kevin Owens might be at the risk of being stuck in the mid-card in AEW, which would be a grave injustice to a talent of his caliber.
The former United States Champion might prefer having stability in his current promotion, instead of taking a risk with All Elite Wrestling. Considering the opportunities he has gotten in recent years, renewing his contract with WWE might be the way to go for KO.
