After being missing from action since 2023, Britt Baker finally returned to All Elite Wrestling this past Sunday at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024. The 33-year-old star, who has been with the Jacksonville-based promotion since its inception in 2019, showed up unexpectedly in the UBS Arena to interrupt the victory celebration of Mercedes Mone, who had just defeated Stephanie Vaquer in a winner-take-all match to capture both the AEW TBS Title and the NJPW Strong Women's Title.
All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan recently revealed on social media that Britt Baker will make her first appearance on Dynamite this year on the upcoming Beach Break special edition of the Wednesday-night flagship show. Although the announcement did not provide exact details regarding the nature of Baker's appearance, fans are eager to see the latter on AEW programming once again.
As such, let us consider four possibilities relating to Britt Baker's return to the July 3, 2024 episode of Dynamite.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1: CEO vs DMD: Britt Baker crosses paths with Mercedes Mone on AEW Dynamite
During the post-show press scrum following Forbidden Door 2024, Mercedes Mone fired off at Britt Baker for seemingly upstaging her massive title win at the pay-per-view. The CEO, who is set to celebrate her victory over Stephanie Vaquer on the upcoming episode of Dynamite, dared her peers in the locker-room to interrupt her and try and steal her limelight again.
Her comments could be inferred to have been directed at Baker, who will also be present in the Wintrust Arena this Wednesday.
The DMD may have indicated her interest in pursuing Mone's championships by confronting the latter at Forbidden Door. Baker could thus potentially confront the former WWE Superstar once again on Dynamite, and lay the groundwork for a prospective feud against Mone for her TBS and NJPW Strong Women's Titles.
#2: Wednesday becomes Staturday: Britt Baker stands in the way of Kris Statlander
Kris Statlander broke the heart of AEW fans when she turned on and assaulted her former ally and tag partner, Willow Nightingale, after the latter lost her TBS Title to Mercedes Mone at Double or Nothing 2024. Since then, the 28-year-old star has been dominating in singles action, although she was on the losing side of a tag team bout at the Zero Hour pre-show for Forbidden Door 2024, where she and Momo Watanabe were defeated by Nightingale and Tam Nakano.
The New York-native will face Willow in a semifinal bout for the 2024 Women's Owen Hart Cup on Dynamite: Beach Break this Wednesday. Considering the changes Statlander's character has undergone since her heel turn, the former AAW Women's Champion could potentially try and hurt Nightingale regardless of the outcome of their match. This could prompt Britt Baker to make the save for Nightingale and fight off Statlander.
The Pennsylvania-native has history with Statlander, who was her last opponent before Baker went on an in-ring hiatus. The two women had locked horns for the TBS Title, which then-champion Statlander retained on Collision last year. A feud between Statlander and Baker could add momentum and credibility to the latter's return, especially if she is interested in pursuing the TBS Championship once again.
#3: Unfinished business: Britt Baker confronts AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm
For much of 2023, Britt Baker and her ally Jamie Hayter were locked in a bitter rivalry with Saraya, Ruby Soho and Toni Storm. The latter formed a heel faction, dubbed The Outcasts, who waged war against AEW's "homegrown talent." The balance of power shifted in favour of the villainous faction after Storm dethroned Hayter for the AEW Women's World Championship.
The top belt of the company's women's division changed hands several times since then, but it eventually found its way back to Storm, who in the meantime transformed her gimmick to spark off her "Timeless" era. Toni Storm retained her belt against Mina Shirakawa at Forbidden Door 2024.
The Illustrious One could find an old rival waiting for her in the form of Britt Baker. The latter, also a former AEW Women's World Champion, could potentially show up at Dynamite to confront Storm, and perhaps issue a challenge for her title. A program between Baker and Storm could occupy the latter before she faces the winner of the Women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at All In 2024.
#4: Britt Baker interacts with The Undisputed Kingdom on AEW Dynamite
Adam Cole stunned AEW fan after he revealed himself as The Devil at Worlds End 2023. The Panama City Playboy shattered his friendship with MJF and unveiled his alliance with Mike Bennett, Matt Taven, Roderick Strong and Wardlow. The faction, dubbed The Undisputed Kingdom, put Friedman out of commission for nearly five months until he returned at Double or Nothing 2024 and exacted vengeance on Cole.
While the former NXT Champion is currently recovering from last year's injury, members of his faction have been involved in separate programs of their own. The Kingdom is competing primarily on ROH and Roderick Strong is teaming with wrestlers from different factions in recent weeks.
Britt Baker has reportedly been in a relationship with Adam Cole since 2017. Although no exact time table is yet available for the latter's in-ring return, Baker will be featured on the July 3, 2024 episode of Dynamite. This could lead to the former IWC Women's Champion crossing paths with members of The Undisputed Kingdom in some kind of segment.
Although the odds of such an interaction is unlikely in Cole's absence, Baker's relationship with him could potentially occasion a segment featuring herself and her partner's stable-mates.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Britt Baker in AEW, with her comeback sure to play spoiler for several stars' plans.
