Many fans feel a former WWE Superstar has been misused in AEW for quite some time. The star being discussed is Serena Deeb. She started her wrestling career in 2005 and has won multiple championships across promotions since then.
The Professor wrestled in the Stamford-based promotion since 2009. During her time in the company, she was part of CM Punk's faction, Straight Edge Society. She was first released in 2010. Throughout the years, she switched between promotions before getting hired by the company as a coach in 2017. However, she was released again in 2020 during pandemic.
The 37-year-old star then signed with AEW in 2020 and was presented as a highly-experienced technical wrestler in women's division. Despite having in-ring skills, the star didn't get pushed enough. She recently got knocked out of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament by Willow Nightingale. Also, she hasn't picked up a victory for over a month.
Meanwhile in WWE, the women's division has been thriving under Triple H's new regime. The female roster has been alloted more than before on TV. A veteran like Deeb could do wonders in the promotion.
As of now, there has been no update on when the 37-year-old star's contract expires and if she does decide to leave the company to re-join WWE.
AEW star Serena Deeb talks about her experience in wrestling industry
Serena Deeb has made a name for herself by performing in independent promotions like OVW, MCW, NWA and WWE and has an experience of 18 years.
Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, the Professor claimed she has thrived across multiple evolutions in women's wrestling and is still active.
"No one has my experience! Nobody. There’s not a woman in this business right now that has my experience and who's still actively wrestling. I’ve seen it all; I’ve been through all the eras. I’ve seen the Divas Era; I’ve seen the women’s revolution. I’ve witnessed all these things, and there’s one constant, and that’s been me. I’ve been there through all of it, and I’m still here,'' Serena said.
It remains to be seen if Serena Deeb gets the push she deserves in the Tony Khan-led promotion.
