The Pinnacle and Inner Circle have been at each other's throats in AEW for months now. Both factions wrestled each other in two different but grueling matches at AEW Blood and Guts and AEW Double or Nothing 2021 in a Blood and Guts match and a Stadium Stampede respectively.

Having picked up a victory apiece, the dissension between individual members of the factions gave way to individual feuds. At AEW Road Rager, FTR and Wardlow defeated Inner Circle's Proud-n-Powerful and Jake Hager in a huge 6-man tag team match.

With MJF and Shawn Spears tending to their personal rivalries against Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara respectively, FTR and Wardlow would be nigh impossible to keep away from the Trios Championship.
The FTR are widely regarded as the best tag team in the world alongside the Young Bucks and Wardlow is a behemoth of a wrestler with bags of ability.
While the FTR are former AEW Tag Team Champions, Wardlow's credibility as a juggernaut would skyrocket with gold around his waist. The Pinnacle will get another feather in their cap as they look to run over the AEW roster.
