AEW Grand Slam Australia is a little over a month away, and fans are excited about the mega event. With the product finally done with Worlds End and the debut of Dynamite and Collision on Max, they can finally move on to the next chapter.
Grand Slam Australia will be held in Brisbane Entertainment Centre on February 15, 2025. The show was originally scheduled to take place at Suncorp Stadium, which had a capacity of over 52,000. However, the tickets didn't sell as quickly as AEW had hoped, so they switched to a smaller venue. The new arena has a capacity of over 13,000.
The Jacksonville-based promotion has multiple top Australian stars on its roster. With the show more than a month away and no matches announced so far, let's take a look at some of the early predictions and speculate on how Tony Khan will book the international event.
#5. House of Black vs. Hurt Syndicate
Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin have been dominating the entire roster since their arrival. Despite the Standard of Excellence not qualifying for the semifinals in the Continental Classic, fans have been amazed by his brutal displays. Also, the All Mighty is also yet to be defeated in the company.
The dominant duo must be booked against The House of Black's Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews. The latter should play an essential role in the bout as he will be performing in his home country.
#4. Kyle Fletcher wins a huge championship
Kyle Fletcher has been pushed to the moon for the past few months. The Australian star almost made it to the finals of the Continental Classic tournament. His heel character has been working well so far.
Fletcher should face Daniel Garcia at Grand Slam Australia for the TNT Championship. The Protostar is one of the fastest-rising talents in the company, and Tony Khan should put a title on him while the iron is hot.
#3. The Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega and Jack Perry
The newly crowned IWGP World Tag Team Champions have been absent from AEW since October 2024. In December, they returned to NJPW and won gold at Wrestle Dynasty. During their absence, their factionmate, Jack Perry, lost the TNT title to Daniel Garcia. The Scapegoat vented frustration on the Bucks for not standing by his side. The former might betray the EVPs when they return.
Kenny Omega, who also fell victim to the Elite's tactics, will return to Dynamite this week and may also seek revenge on them. Kenny and Jack should team up and challenge The Young Bucks to a tag team match at Australia's grand event.
#2. Darby Allin wins the AEW World Championship
The former TNT Champion was reportedly set to win the world title months ago, but plans changed, and Jon Moxley is currently holding the top prize. While the takeover storyline seemed intriguing at first, the Death Riders have failed to create anything new over the past couple of months.
Darby Allin has been after Moxley for a long time. Tony Khan should book a match between him and the one true king at Grand Slam Australia. This might also be the right time for Darby to be crowned as the AEW World Champion.
#1. Toni Storm vs. Mariah May for the AEW Women's World Championship
'Timeless' Toni Storm lost to the Glamour at All In 2024 and went on a lengthy hiatus. She returned to AEW a few weeks ago with her previous gimmick and has been acting as a rookie. AEW recently announced a Women's Casino Gauntlet match at next week's Dynamite: Maximum Carnage, the winner of which would receive a title opportunity.
On the upcoming Dynamite, she will wrestle in a triple threat against Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale. The winner of this bout will punch their ticket to the gauntlet contest. If Storm wins the triple threat and then the Casino Gauntlet match, she will face Mariah May for the AEW Women's World Championship at Grand Slam Australia.
It will be interesting to see how Tony Khan books the much-awaited pay-per-view.
