WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg recently opened up on the possibility of him having a final match, even outside WWE, and fans think it could happen in AEW. The speculation around the WCW icon having one more match has stirred conversation online.
Goldberg has said that the AEW product is too cheesy for him, to the surprise of the Jacksonville-based promotion's president Tony Khan. However, things can change on a dime in wrestling and there's always a possibility of the former WWE Universal Champion having his final match in AEW. Here are five final opponents for Goldberg if he did have a final opponent who is All Elite.
#5. Samoa Joe could be AEW's Strong Man against Bill Goldberg
If Goldberg comes to AEW, he will most likely immediately be in the race for a championship. The storyline could be that he plans to win and retain even after his final retirement match, similar to how Sting and Darby Allin retained the AEW Tag Team Championship after they won the match against The Young Bucks and Sting retired at Revolution 2024.
With the future of a championship at stake, Samoa Joe could take it upon himself to deter an invading Bill Goldberg. Joe has it in him to stand against Bill toe-to-toe and give an incredibly entertaining match. Both are popular for their power moves and presence in the ring. If done correctly, this could easily be a rivalry that goes into the annals of wrestling history.
#4. Will Ospreay could get a taste of old-school wrestling from Goldberg
Will Ospreay is one of the hottest names in professional wrestling today, but the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion's story is just starting in AEW. If he faces Goldberg now in a solidly-booked match, his place on the roster will be cemented. His high-flying fighting style has earned him the nickname The Aerial Assassin.
Goldberg is an absolute battering ram on his best days and has decimated several worthy opponents. One of his most notable wins came in dominant fashion against Brock Lesnar in WWE. The crowd would heavily anticipate seeing Ospreay handle the Spear and the Jackhammer.
#3. Bryan Danielson could realise why Goldberg's legacy is immortal
Bryan Danielson has confirmed he is not in the hunt for a championship in AEW. That allows him to revel in the competition of technical mastery in the ring and have classics against other stars. And who better than Goldberg to test the skills of the American Dragon?
Danielson has faced big men in WWE, including Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2018. His feud and storyline with Kane was one of the most entertaining in the PG era of the Stamford-based company. So, he won't be certainly won't be at sea if he faces Bill in the ring.
#2. Jon Moxley could make Goldberg realize how much wrestling has changed
Jon Moxley made his WWE main roster debut in 2012. By then, Bill Goldberg was already an industry veteran, with his most famous achievement being his year-long undefeated streak in WCW, from 1997 to 1998. Moxley joined AEW in 2019 and is among the most formidable forces in the promotion.
His mic skills are flawless, and a promo of him holding a barbed-wire club and calling out Old School Bill Goldberg would be epic. The Lunatic Fringe is famous for wild intense matches, and such a clash would be the perfect sendoff for Goldberg.
#1. Swerve Strickland could learn a thing or two from Goldberg in the ring
Swerve Strickland has a 'stop at nothing' attitude, similar to Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. Goldberg has a 'stop everything in his way' attitude. The two stars clashing in the ring would be the perfect mix of confident cockiness and incredible experience.
Strickland has a tremendous amount of experience clashing with the best, after having faced the likes of Samoa Joe to win the World Championship, and defended it against Roderick Strong, Christian Cage, and others.
A former WWE writer has expressed his frustration with Strickland's current booking. A match-up between The Realest and Goldberg should be sobering for both the professional wrestlers.
Each of these matches will be high on entertainment value, and it remains to be seen which one comes true,
