Earlier today, Adam Copeland (FKA Edge) revealed that he suffered an injury following a dangerous table spot during his match at Double or Nothing last weekend.
He fractured his Tibia during his leap from atop the steel cage. The Rated-R Superstar then revealed he needed surgery, which would push back his return to the ring.
Although it has not been officially announced, Adam Copeland may have to relinquish the TNT Championship, but who could emerge as the next potential champion? Here are some major candidates:
#3. Christian Cage could become a three-time TNT Champion
The Patriarch may have lost the title two months ago, but his time as the champion proves he is worthy of holding the belt again.
After becoming champion, the veteran claimed he would bring prestige to the title, something his predecessors failed to do. Love or hate him, but he did not back on his words, as he has made the title worthy of main eventing several shows and even a pay-per-view last year.
He is a two-time TNT Champion, counting the time he dropped the title for less than ten minutes. Combining both his reigns, he has held the title for 179 days.
With Cage as the champion, you can expect that he will be able to make any star he feuds with look like a million bucks. The former WWE star would be the perfect man to hold the title before Adam Copeland returns eventually. This would also set up another match between the two former best friends sometime in the future.
#2. Jack Perry is the only member of The Elite without a title
Following his return to AEW at Dynasty, Jack Perry has emerged as someone with great momentum, and seeing how he is now a member of The Elite, this could take him to great heights.
He is the only member not holding championship gold, and the EVPs could use their power and influence to change that. Seeing as they chose Christian Cage as Swerve Strickland's next challenger, they could instantly add The Scapegoat to a match to become the new TNT Champion.
After pinning Bryan Danielson to help The Elite score the win at Double or Nothing, momentum is on Perry's side, and this could push him to add a run as the TNT Champion to his list of accolades. Once he returns, this could also open a feud between Adam Copeland and The Elite.
#1. Malakai Black vs. Adam Copeland II could happen somewhere down the road
At Double or Nothing, it seemed Malakai Black was about to win his first singles title since his AEW debut in 2021. However, Adam Copeland pulled through in a gruesome contest between the two.
The leader of the House of Black remains the number one contender for the title, and he would naturally emerge as one of the candidates to become the next champion. He has proven to be one of the most dominant stars in the promotion, only losing two singles matches in his almost three years with the company.
Like when Julia Hart was the TBS Champion, all his contenders would have to go through matches with House rules, which would play to his strengths. He could end up becoming one of the greatest TNT Champions in history.
Malakai could emerge as someone who will continue to bring prestige to the title. He could end up holding this until Adam Copeland's return, which would begin a second feud between the two.
