MJF vs Sammy Guevara in the main event of AEW Dynamite
MJF cut a promo on the AEW fans at Daily's Place before the match began, saying that unlike the boys in the back, he didn't miss any of them.
MJF left the AEW ring almost as soon as the bell rang before getting back into the ring.
The match started with both men avoiding each other's offense and looking for an opening. Sammy Guevara went for the GTH early but MJF caught his leg, blocking it at the last moment. MJF characteristically got Guevara with a thumb to the eye. Sammy hit back and headed to the top rope but MJF rolled out of the ring.
Back in the the ring, Guevara hit a double springboard cutter for a two-count before sending MJF throat-first into the top rope. MJF was quickly back in control after he sent Sammy crashing into the barricade at ringside. MJF slowed down the pace of the match which favored his style as he methodically tried to break down his rival.
The match soon headed back out to ringside. MJF briefly got distracted by fans screaming at him, giving Sammy Guevara an opening. Sammy rolled MJF back into the ring. Sammy then went to hit a springboard dive but MJF caught him with a Liger Bomb in midair. Guevara hit back with a Canadian Destroyer for a two-count of his own.
MJF headed out to ringside again and grabbed a chair but Guevara hit him with a dropkick into the chair. Sammy headed to the top rope and took out MJF with a dive right into the crowd. Back in the ring, Sammy headed to the top rope but MJF took his feet out from under him. MJF then joined him on the turnbuckle, hitting a Tombstone Piledriver off the middle rope, but only got a near-fall.
MJF seemed to be favoring his knee after the Tombstone Piledriver and Sammy rolled him up again for another near-fall to almost end the AEW match. MJF still couldn't get back on his feet and decided to chop Sammy Guevara across the back of the knee. Guevara finally connected with the GTH but the pin attempt was too close to the ropes as the AEW main event continued. Undetterred, he headed to the top rope and hit MJF with the 630. It still wasn't enough to put him away on AEW Dynamite.
Shawn Spears came out of the back at this point as Chris Jericho tried to make the save from the commentary desk. Wardlow attacked Jericho from behind and tossed him off the stage. Shawn Spears hit Sammy with a nasty chair shot while the referee was busy checking on Jericho. MJF somehow managed to crawl over and pin Sammy Guevara for the win on AEW Dynamite.
