Since his debut in AEW, Darby Allin had become one of the most popular stars in the promotion. Although he had the support of the fans, Allin was always looking for a decisive win in his career. He had come up short in AEW World Championship matches against Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley. Allin also had now victories to show in his previous three meetings with Cody Rhodes. Full Gear seemed like his last chance at a title for some time.

With the TNT Championship on the line, Darby Allin finally got that victory over Cody in a great bout. The two men told an incredible story focused on Cody grounding the high-risk style of Allin and taking him lightly after being undefeated against him.

Allin took advantage of this overconfidence and surprised Rhodes with a cradle to win his first championship in All Elite Wrestling at Full Gear 2020.

After numerous times coming up short, this victory was such a happy conclusion to this match and marked the first homegrown talent in AEW to win singles gold. This title change at Full Gear 2020 may be looked back even fondly as time goes by if the company can further elevate the stardom of Allin.
