#3 Lance Archer reveals why he chose AEW over NJPW
AEW star and current IWGP United States champion Lance Archer recently revealed the reason behind leaving NJPW.
Lance Archer has become one of the company's rising stars this year. He has been legitimately treated as the monster in the ring. Although he's yet to showcase his full potential, fans have already witnessed his in-ring capability.
Lance Archer also has the services of legendary Jake Roberts, who acts as his on-screen manager and has proved to be a lethal talking weapon for the Murderhawk Monster. But before he joined AEW, Archer had yielded immense success in NJPW. But he left the company in 2020 to shake hands with Tony Khan.
Speaking on a recent episode of AEW's Unrestricted, Lance Archer explained the reason behind leaving NJPW. He stated that it was a difficult decision to leave a company where he spent almost a decade. At the same time, he acknowledged that AEW is on the verge of changing the landscape in the wrestling business which prompted him to make the decision:
"There were a lot of pros and cons, and it took a bit for me to weigh all the goods and bads as far as making that decision,” Archer recalled. “A place I’d been in for nearly nine years, a lot of friends and people that had kind of become family over in Japan, and then the opportunity that All Elite Wrestling was providing, All Elite Wrestling was changing the professional wrestling world."
Lance Archer recently defeated Jon Moxley to capture the IWGP U.S. Championship for the second time in his career. He will now defend his title against the Bullet Club member Hikuleo next week at the Fight For The Fallen episode of AEW Dynamite.
