#4 IMPACT Wrestling star reveals AEW's Jon Moxley was originally going to join 3MB
IMPACT Wrestling star Heath Slater recently revealed that he pitched the idea of having AEW's Jon Moxley, Fandango, and EC3 to be a part of the original 3MB faction.
In early 2012, WWE introduced a stable, which used to go by the name 3MB, consisting of Jinder Mahal, Drew McIntyre, and Heath Slater. The group didn't yield much success and was disbanded after the company released Drew McIntyre from his contract in 2014.
Speaking on the Such Good Shoot podcast, Heath Slater discussed numerous topics, most notably the idea of having AEW's Jon Moxley in the original 3MB group. Slater stated that he initially pitched the idea of having Fandango and Jon Moxley in his faction:
I’ve been a one man band. Let me have a band.’ They’re just like, ‘Oh, who are you thinking?’ I pitch [Dean] Ambrose, Fandango, and EC3. And this is before any of them are on TV. Fandango and EC3 were on NXT season three or something. So I pitch for those three. And then they were like, ‘Okay, let me get back with you.’ And this is Michael Hayes the whole time I’m talking with. The month goes by — nothing. You know, like, ‘Hey, baby, what the hell, man? I need this band!”
But management denied the request and instead paired him with Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal, to which Slater thought it would be an odd group, considering both men were from different countries:
“I’m like, ‘Alright, well, who’s in the band?’ He responded, ‘Jinder [Mahal] and Drew [McIntyre].’ I said, ‘That sounds like a bad joke, man: a Scotsman, an Indian, and a redneck walks into a bar.’ Well, when he told me that I first said, ‘Drew’s gonna be pissed, man.’ Because Drew always wants to be that badass, serious dude, you know? He legit is. Yeah, he wants to be that dude and him in 3MB is just was literally like one of those things." (H/T - WrestlingInc)
Nevertheless, it turned out to be a good move as AEW's Jon Moxley, f.k.a Dean Ambrose, joined the Shield, which became the most popular faction in the company's history. On an interesting note, all three members of the Shield went on to become World Champions.
However, Jon Moxley left the company and joined AEW in 2019. He also defeated the inaugural AEW World Champion Chris Jericho to win the championship. The former WWE superstar is currently on hiatus.
