#2 Wrestling manager isn't impressed with the idea of having Tully Blanchard in the ring with AEW's Sting
Wrestling manager Dutch Mantell believes the teased match between Sting and Tully Blanchard in AEW will be the first one with both men receiving benefits from social security.
Speaking on the latest episode of Smack Talk, Mantell expressed his disinterest in the storyline between two wrestlers who are well past their prime. He added that only residents of a nursing home would be excited to see a match between two AEW veterans.
"Are they thinking about having a match between Tully and Sting?" said Mantell. "It wouldn't interest me, some people might be like, 'Yes, let's do it.' You know how long it has been since Four Horsemen and Sting were in Mid-Atlantic? 30 years. Anybody that might be interested in it is maybe in a nursing home. That would be the first match where both participants might be on social security."
No matter how you feel about it, Mantell's firm criticism is grounded in the fact that AEW rarely books two old-timers against each other whatsoever. Mantell was arguably pointing out how this clash between legends might not appeal to AEW's fanbase, which is typically filled with relatively younger fans.
During this week's episode of AEW Rampage, Sting and Darby Allin responded to Tully Blanchard's challenge.
Allin first sent a message to Shawn Spears, notably mocking him for being irrelevant without Blanchard. Sting then took a shot at Blanchard for riding on the coattails of Ric Flair and Arn Anderson.
These insults prompted Blanchard to engage in an argument with Sting, but he was only providing a distraction that allowed Spears to attack Allin from behind.
