AEW star CM Punk is optimistic about seeing current UFC star Conor McGregor cross-over into pro wrestling.
While speaking with ESPN Sportsnation, Punk acknowledged the success of Ronda Rousey and Floyd Mayweather in wrestling. With that in mind, The Straight Edge Superstar believes The Notorious One will eventually jump over into the pro wrestling world one day.
CM Punk even defended the former UFC stars who've tried their luck inside the squared circle, saying there's nothing wrong with making money:
"[Floyd] Mayweather crossed over and did a match at WrestleMania, I’m sure we’re eventually going to see [Conor] McGregor come over," CM Punk said. "[Ronda] Rousey was excellent when she came over. The bottom line is making money. If you’re making money, you’re technically not doing anything wrong.”
MMA stars like Paige VanZant, Junior Dos Santos, and Jorge Masvidal, to name a few, have all tried their luck in pro wrestling at AEW this year. Plus, McGregor has a long history with the wrestling world, especially with WWE Superstars.
He has often teased joining the promotion to compete against Finn Balor. It will be interesting to see if the 33-year-old star will decide to follow in the footsteps of superstars like Ronda Rousey.
#1 AEW star Sting praises his on-screen rivals Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood
Sting recently had high words of praise when he spoke about FTR during an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated.
The WCW veteran compared Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood to the modern-day versions of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. Sting lauded the FTR's skills in the ring and called them one of the best tag teams in the world:
"FTR, they are a modern-day Arn and Tully. They are as good as it gets. I put them up there with anyone, and they are one of the best tag teams in the world," Sting said. When you’re in the ring with them, it’s game on. There's no playing around, especially the pace they can go, and I saw that firsthand when we wrestled."
The Icon recently teamed up with CM Punk and Darby Allin to defeat FTR and MJF in a trios match on the Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite last week.
