Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today we will take a look at a backstage altercation that took place after Wrestle Dynasty's conclusion. We will also check out what Becky Lynch has been doing during her WWE hiatus.
In addition, we will learn about a blockbuster reunion teased by The Best Bout Machine, Kenny Omega. So without further ado, let's begin:
#5. ROH Women's World Champion Athena had an altercation with Thekla after Wrestle Dynasty concluded
Even though Athena is signed to All Elite Wrestling, she predominantly performs in the sister promotion, Ring of Honor. At Wrestle Dynasty, she locked horns with Momo Watanabe, Willow Nightingale, and Persephone in a Four-way Match.
The ROH Women's World Champion was close to winning this showdown. However, Watanabe's H.A.T.E. stablemate, Thekla, cost The War Goddess the match.
After the pay-per-view ended, Thekla and Athena had a heated altercation backstage during the post-show press conference. The two women swore at each other and came close to exchanging blows.
On January 13, they will lock horns at STARDOM's upcoming event at the Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, for the ROH Women's World Title.
#4. Kenny Omega teased the reunion of the Golden Lovers
Kenny Omega defeated NJPW star Gabe Kidd in a now-historic match at Wrestle Dynasty. The Cleaner was sidelined throughout 2024 due to a life-threatening injury.
Recently, Omega revealed that the only wrestler who practiced with him during his hiatus was his close friend and Golden Lovers' teammate, Kota Ibushi. In a recent interaction with Tokyo Sports, the former AEW World Champion teased a reunion with Ibushi.
"For the past year, the only wrestler who supported me and practiced with me was Kota Ibushi. Since we live in different countries, I've done most of it alone, but thanks to Ibushi, I got my final confidence back. I want to reunite Golden☆Lovers in Japan, America, or anywhere else,” he said. #3. Becky Lynch will appear in a film that stars MJF
Becky Lynch has been absent from the Stamford-based company since May 2024. Her contract expired in June last year. Interestingly, reports suggest she has played the role of a rival golfer in the upcoming film, Happy Gilmore 2.
Happy Gilmore 2 will star Maxwell Jacob Friedman and the "King of Latin Trap," Bad Bunny. Apart from the aforementioned names, its cast includes Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Allen Covert, and more.
#2. AEW star Dante Martin says goodbye to X for now
In the latest episode of Collision, a Four-way Match took place between Dante Martin, Brian Cage, The Beast Mortos, and Komander. Its winner was Cage, and he won $100,000 for winning this showdown.
Dante Martin was dejected by this result, and the 23-year-old recently announced on X (Twitter) that he is exiting the social media platform. However, the AEW star added that he will be back in a few months.
#1. Mercedes Moné does not have a creative control clause in her AEW contract
Mercedes Moné is one of the biggest stars in the world of professional wrestling. She is a 'belt collector,' as The CEO currently holds the AEW TBS Championship, the NJPW Strong Women's Title, and the RevPro Undisputed British Women's Championship.
In a recent Q&A, Fightful Select was asked if The CEO had a creative control clause in her AEW contract. Surprisingly, it was revealed that even though she has a lot of influence on the company due to her star power, the 32-year-old does not have creative control over the storylines involving her.
