Welcome back to the latest edition of AEW News and Roundup. In today's edition, we will briefly discuss some trending topics, like a huge confession made by an AEW star about The Rock.
Meanwhile, a top star can't join WWE right now. Additionally, a female wrestler bid farewell to her friendship with a current champion in the Jacksonville-based company.
So, without further ado, let's begin:
#5. Rey Fenix is stuck in AEW
A few months ago, it was reported that Rey Fenix was set to make his AEW exit alongside his brother Penta El Zero Miedo. While the latter has already said goodbye to the Tony Khan-led promotion, Rey is still stuck in the company. The AEO CEO had reportedly added injury time to the 33-year-old's contract.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Fenix could be forced to stay in AEW for around a year. He wanted to join WWE but obviously can't because of his contract situation in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"Rey Fenix, he’s got a long time left. I’m not exactly sure how long, but one of his friends told me like a year as far as injury time they’ve tacked on. And obviously he wants to go to WWE, and he can’t go,'' the wrestling journalist said.
#4. Orange Cassidy makes a huge confession about The Rock
The Rock is one of the most popular names in the pro wrestling industry. The Final Boss was in his prime in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although The Great One shifted to the movie industry decades ago, he's still got a strong foothold in the wrestling world.
Speaking in an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Bill Apter, AEW star Orange Cassidy acknowledged The Great One for being such a talented human being. The former International Champion claimed that when Dwayne Johnson became a part of the Fast and Furious franchise, he instantly took it to a whole new level.
"He tried to take over the power of the DC universe and didn't do it. But he did it. He made one of my favorite movies of all time, Fast and Furious Five. When he comes into that franchise, it just kicks it up another level. He's all over the place; he must never sleep," Freshly Squeezed said.
#3. Mina Shirakawa bids farewell to her friendship with Mariah May
Mina Shirakawa and Mariah May were inseparable until The Glamour betrayed the Japanese star at Full Gear. The reigning AEW Women's World Champion tried to blindside the Japanese star with a champagne bottle but was unsuccessful in her attempt and got speared through a table instead.
The former close friends will take on each other at Dynamite: Winter is Coming later tonight. The Women's World Championship will also be on the line. Ahead of the match, Mina took to her X account to bid farewell to her friendship with The Fighting Princess.
#2. Bully Ray will never work with Tony Khan
Tony Khan is the head booker of AEW, and this is why he's been garnering a lot of heat from disappointed fans. On a recent edition of the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray discussed the possibility of working as the head booker of the Jacksonville-based company.
The WWE Hall of Famer claimed that it would never happen, as Khan would never relinquish his position as head of creative.
"Could Bully Ray and Tony Khan work together? Or more specifically, could Bully Ray be the booker of AEW? That opportunity would never happen. You're not taking the real-life hobby of Tony Khan that has finally come to life out of his hands. This kid grew up, became a man, has wanted to do this his entire life, and has the money to do it in any which way, shape, or form he sees fit," he said.
#1. AEW is set to run a show in Adam Copeland's current hometown
The Tony Khan-led company is set to stage Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen on January 1 at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina. This is the current hometown of Adam Copeland.
The show will serve as a charity event for the victims of Hurricane Helene, which demolished parts of the US earlier this year. The show will be a simulcast on MAX and TBS.
Fightful Select recently reported that Adam Copeland and FTR had a big hand in convincing Tony Khan to run a show in this area. The money drawn from the show could go a long way in helping the hurricane victims.
