Cody Rhodes challenges Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship in the AEW Rampage main event
AEW announcer Justin Roberts announced that legendary wrestling executive David Crockett was present in the arena before introducing the champion and challenger.
Sammy Guevara came out flying with a dropkick and tried to go for the GTH, but Cody Rhodes countered. More offense from Sammy saw Cody roll out of the ring to regroup. Arn Anderson offered some advice as The American Nightmare made his way inside the ring.
Cody took down Sammy with a headlock, but the latter hit a power slam to regain control. Sammy went for a Disaster Kick, but Cody countered with a Cody Cutter. Both men went on the outside and battled it out at ringside.
The Spanish God went for a Shooting Star Press, but his opponent dodged it and rolled Sammy inside in the ring. Rhodes kneed Guevara in the midsection and locked Sammy in an arm hold as we headed into commercial.
Back from commercial, the challenger had the champion in a vertical suplex position. Cody went to the top rope, but Sammy moved out of the moonsault. Sammy delivered a spear in the corner, hit an enziguiri, and delivered a huge cutter for a nearfall.
Sammy Guevara delivered a Cross Rhodes and hit a 450 Splash on the outside. Cody caught Sammy and powerbombed him into the crowd. Rhodes delivered the Disaster Kick as the fans in attendance booed him. Cody tried for the Cross Rhodes, but Sammy kicked out.
Cody tried to get Sammy to his feet, but the Inner Circle member was staggered and couldn't get up. Rhodes had Guevara perched on the top rope, but the latter countered and hit the GTH.
Cody kicked out to everyone's shock, causing Sammy to go for the 630. The former got his knees up and hit two more Cross Rhodes and the Tiger Driver 98 for the win.
David Crockett crowned Cody Rhodes as the new champion as he became the first-ever three-time champion in AEW history.
