At the recent Money in the Bank PLE, John Cena announced that the year 2025 will be the year of his in-ring retirement. Several speculations have already made the rounds about the possible opponents for Cena during his retirement tour next year. A current top AEW star could be a part of Cena's tour as well.
The star in question is none other than Bryan Danielson. The American Dragon made his AEW debut back in 2021 and has been a top star in the promotion until now. However, he achieved great feats during his time in the WWE. Bryan could face Cena in his retirement tour in 2025 considering the following reasons:
Bryan Danielson is not under contract with AEW
Bryan Danielson recently made a shocking revelation that his contract with AEW will expire at the beginning of August 2024. Hence, Danielson is not under contract with Tony Khan's promotion as of now it seems.

Therefore, The American Dragon is free to make his return to the WWE as per the current scenario. Bryan could be a part of John Cena's retirement tour next year given that he doesn't sign a new deal with Tony Khan's promotion.
Bryan Danielson is uncertain about his future after in-ring retirement
Bryan Danielson recently stated that he doesn't think he can wrestle forever and is uncertain about his role after in-ring retirement. However, Danielson has announced his retirement before also and he made a blockbuster return later.
Therefore, WWE could request him to make his return to the biggest wrestling promotion yet again and share the squared circle with John Cena in his retirement tour for one last run.
John Cena has a history with Bryan Danielson
John Cena and Bryan Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan) have a lot of history dating back to over a decade ago. Back in 2013, Danielson challenged Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam and eventually defeated The Leader of the Cenation to become the champion at the event as well.
Their history can be revisited during Cena's retirement tour next year in case The American Dragon returns to the WWE and feuds with the former 16-time world champion one last time.
Although the chances are slim, it can't be denied that there is a possibility that Bryan might want to end his career in the Stamford-based promotion. Only time will tell if that turns out to be the case.
