Former WWE World Champion, AJ Styles, could make his move to AEW and have a retirement match against a top star. Styles cleared the air on any controversy with the star earlier this year.
AJ Styles has been with WWE since 2016 and has had a great run, becoming a multi-time world champion. However, according to a recent report, Styles' contract with the Stamford-based promotion is set to expire soon. The Phenomenal One could make the move to AEW and have a retirement match against The Aerial Assassin, Will Ospreay.
Will Ospreay has seemingly been paying tribute to Styles by using the Styles Clash move for quite some time. At Worlds End 2024, Ospreay used the Styles Clash to win his Continental Classic semi-final match against Kyle Fletcher. Therefore, AJ confronting Ospreay regarding his signature move in AEW could be a great creative idea.
Earlier this year, Styles came to the defense of Will Ospreay as fans were calling him out for the use of the Styles Clash. AJ said that wrestlers using others' moves shows appreciation more than anything else. This seemingly implies that The Phenomenal One would be interested in working with The Aerial Assassin.
Moreover, AJ Styles vs. Will Ospreay is an absolute dream match, and Styles having his retirement match against Ospreay with a decent build could be a great fairytale ending for the former WWE World Champion.
AJ Styles' last appearance on WWE TV
AJ Styles feuded with the likes of LA Knight, Cody Rhodes, and more in the year 2024. However, he is currently out of action due to injury. On an episode of SmackDown in October 2024, Styles suffered an injury during his match against Carmelo Hayes and had to be taken out of the arena.
The Phenomenal One has not been seen on TV ever since sustaining the injury in October. Fans will have to wait and see what the future has in store for the former WWE World Champion.
