Wrestling fans might soon see Baron Corbin arrive in Tony Khan's AEW after his sudden departure from WWE. He might even start a storyline with his close friend MJF.

Corbin's WWE contract was set to expire soon. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported that the Stamford-based promotion informed the 40-year-old star that his contract would not be renewed after its expiry. Corbin later confirmed the news of his departure with a tweet on X (fka Twitter).

MJF and Corbin have been good friends for a while. They often interact with each other on social media and share a solid bond. That said, their friendship could bring The Lone Wolf into AEW and eventually, the two friends could build a strong partnership in Tony Khan's promotion.

The chances are very slim but still possible. It should also be noted that before jumping over to any other promotion, the released star will have to serve a 90-day non-compete clause after his WWE exit.

Wrestling legend on Baron Corbin's departure from WWE

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter commented on Baron Corbin's release from WWE. He said the former United States Champion's departure from the Stamford-based promotion was a long time coming.

He said, "Regarding Baron Corbin, it was just a matter of time. They never really found a niche for him that really worked. They tried so many different characterizations for him, they also tried him in NXT. Again, there was no real place that he became successful. So, it didn't surprise me that they were not renewing his contract. Again, that's not a firing. And that's my bottom line because Senior Editor Apter said so."

Corbin started his wrestling career in WWE and signed with the company's developmental brand, NXT in August 2012 with no prior wrestling experience.
