In 2001, Omega's journey began in Premier Championship Wrestling (PCW), where he quickly made a name for himself, winning championships and competing for the TNA X Division Championship. Despite a stint in WWE's developmental territory, Deep South Wrestling, Omega faced challenges and chose to remain independent, returning to professional wrestling after briefly exploring mixed martial arts.

Following his WWE release, 2008 marked a pivotal year for Omega. He won the JAPW Heavyweight Championship, participated in Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments, and formed the Golden Lovers tag team with Kota Ibushi.
