MJF and Cody Rhodes have a history unlike any other. The two stars are at present, the marquee names of their respective companies.
Cody went on to fulfill his destiny to become the WWE Champion when he defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. It was a dream come true moment for him and certainly something that his father, Dusty Rhodes would have been proud of.
As for MJF, he was the AEW Champion for a long time last year and became a beloved baby face as Adam Cole’s tag team partner. He then took some time off and then came back, went back to being a heel and recently became the new AEW American Champion.
Despite Cody enjoying the obviously large share of success, MJF has done something that the American Nightmare could not do in WWE. That is to have his own title belt, based around how he would have wanted it.
Cody Rhodes always wanted to bring back the Winged Eagle WWE belt
The Winged Eagle WWE Title was something that was there when Dusty Rhodes was still wrestling with the company. It was synonymous with the company and was the marquee title.
Cody Rhodes never shied away from the fact that he wanted to bring back the winged eagle belt if he became the WWE Champion. Whilst he did defeat Roman Reigns to become the champion at long last, he was not afforded the freedom that Tony Khan gave MJF when he changed the AEW International Title to the American Title.
That was a classy touch by MJF and something that he will always one up over his former rival. It will be interesting to see if Cody Rhodes will have something to say about the newest title in AEW and whether or not he still has plans to bring back the winged eagle title that he once promised.
