A two-time AEW champion has confirmed when his contract with the company ends, and it is not too far away. If he ends up leaving, it will be a big blow to Tony Khan and his company.
The name in question is Pentagon Jr. Penta, who has been in AEW since 2019 and has gone on to lift the tag team and trios titles during his stay. Reports emerged at the beginning of this month that his current contract would end in August or September.
Now, Penta himself confirmed the rumors during his interview with YouTuber Lalo Elizarraras on his Comiendo Carnitas episode. He also said that he was keeping his options open.
"Pentagon Jr today confirmed his contract with AEW expires around Aug/Sept of this year. He is a keeping a open mind to all of his options... He did say he has a lot to consider. Penta has his hands in a lot of different business. He has his own Lucha store, he has a wrestling school, among other business ventures. He said he has people that count on him for his support & a job. He does not want to jeopardize that." [H/T Dark Puroresu Flowsion on Twitter]
The report at the beginning of this month also noted WWE's interest in Penta. If the AEW star decides to leave, it will be interesting to see whether he ends up in the Triple H-led promotion.
Gunther talks about the chop he got from AEW’s Pentagon Jr
WWE star Gunther is one of the toughest stars in the wrestling world and is known to dish out very hard chops to his opponents.
However, he has revealed that one of the hardest chops he ever faced was from Pentagon Jr during their time in wXw. The former Intercontinental Champion was speaking to Chris Van Vliet when he reminisced about the incident.
"I was shocked one time – I remember I wrestled in Germany back then. I was wrestling Pentagon, actually, and I chopped him, and he chopped me once, and I was bleeding right away. It was like, 'What? What is going on?' Some of the Mexican colleagues are gonna say they chop like it's, the movement is a little bit like it's a whip, if that makes sense. It's because they chop from overhand, and most of them do. That is painful, I gotta say," Gunther said.
That just goes to show what kind of star Pentagon Jr. is, and it also proves that there will be no shortage of suitors for him once his contract is up.
