The former WWE and AEW veteran, Matt Hardy, revealed that the current top NXT star left Tony Khan's promotion after he realized his perception in Khan's eyes. The star recently made his debut in the company to a massive reaction.
The 34-year-old star in question is none other than Ethan Page. Ethan recently made his move to the WWE following his AEW departure a few months ago. At the recent Heatwave PLE, Ethan secured the NXT championship within six weeks of his debut.
Meanwhile, the WWE legend Matt Hardy also shared his thoughts on Ethan Page jumping ship to the Stamford-based promotion and becoming the NXT champion. Speaking on his Extreme Life podcast recently, Matt stated the following:
"Super proud of Ethan for believing in himself, once again he could've signed a contract with AEW but I think he realized Tony [Khan] already had a perception of what Ethan Page was going to be, of what Ethan Page's ceiling was, what he could possibly do, and Ethan didn't just settle for a payday. He wanted to go somewhere where he could still bust and grind away and become a champion, and continue to elevate his status, for that I have huge respect for him." [15:50-16:18]
Matt Hardy on his conversation with the current NXT champion
Matt Hardy also revealed that he had a conversation with the current NXT champion, Ethan Page, before he made his move to the WWE. Here is what Matt disclosed regarding their talks:
"We actually... we had a conversation about this before, I said 'yeah man I think you're doing the right thing,' because I have already seen great talent. [...] I'm so glad that he did bet on himself because I feel like Ethan is a strong wrestler, he's a great performer, he has a great mind for telling stories in the match, and he's very good at incorporating character stuff. [...] So yeah, I was very happy he went there, I was happy he bet on himself." [16:19-17:02]
Meanwhile, Ethan Page seems to have a bright future after his NXT title win. Only time will tell what Shawn Michaels has in store for All Ego going forward.
