A former WWE star just made a huge revelation about the chance of him joining AEW. He has wrestled in every major promotion except All Elite Wrestling.
Davey Boy Smith Jr. first made a name for himself in WWE where he teamed up with Tyson Kidd and Natalya. However, after his run ended with the Stamford-based promotion, he continued to wrestle in the Indies and even championships in several major promotions. Currently, he is the AJPW Triple Crown Champion.
For the past few years, his name has been heavily linked to AEW since his former tag team partner, Lance Archer, has been a prominent feature on TV. However, he still hasn't wrestled for the Jacksonville-based promotion.
During a recent interview with Hannibal TV, Davey Boy Smith Jr. said he is open to working with All Elite Wrestling and even NJPW:
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
"I certainly don’t have any problem or issue with doing anything with AEW. Working with MLW, I’ve worked with a lot of New Japan talent that have been coming in. I got nothing bad to say about New Japan either."
He continued to say that people always ask him why he didn't show up at All In. He believes that Tony Khan's company was on the fence about working with him since he was working for MLW at the time:
"People have asked a lot of times about why I wasn’t on the Wembley Stadium show or why I’m not in AEW, and a lot of it is, the last year or so, I was doing stuff with MLW against. I guess from AEW’s perspective, which I totally understand, I’m not mad at all, if they bring me in for one show, I guess I’m gonna have to go over, and then it’s just a one-shot deal." Davey Boy Smith Jr. revealed that AEW hasn't reached out to him
All Elite Wrestling has been known to hire several former WWE talent over the years to add more value to their growing roster. Hence, why many fans believed that Smith Jr. would also join their ranks, however, that has not happened but it's not due to the former WWE star not wanting to work with the Jacksonville-based promotion. The company just hasn't reached out to him.
During the same interview, Davey Boy Smith Jr. admitted that All Elite Wrestling has not contacted him for work. He believed that fans wouldn't be interested in a one-off match and would want to see him have a storyline of matches. He further said that it is for the best that he stays in AJPW and could go to Tony Khan's promotion if they hosted a yearly tag team tournament. He also said that he could go to All Elite Wrestling once his AJPW deal was over:
"Also, there hasn’t been any reach out as far as if I were to do that, fans would want to see a continuation or some sort of a story after that, or further additions to an AEW, not just one-time match, but tag-teaming with Lance Archer for instance, but that’s people that they have under contract, so I would be up for it if it was a one-thing deal." It will be interesting to see if Davey Boy Smith Jr. will step inside an AEW ring soon.
