One of the wrestlers from AEW had the honor of competing in their last wrestling match with a top star. The veteran wrestler sent a heartfelt message for the company's President, Tony Khan, following her spectacular retirement bout.
After being in the business for almost 27 years, Sumie Sakai wrestled her final match at NJPW Battle at the Valley last Saturday. She teamed up with SHO and EVIL to battle Hiromu Takahashi, Iwatani, and All Elite star Sakazaki Yuka.
It was a spectacular trio match between the top female wrestling stars, despite Sakai losing the match due to her teammates betraying her. Moreover, adding Sakazaki Yuka from the Jacksonville-based promotion was an excellent move, and Sumie Sakai also highly appreciated it.
Sumie Sakai took to Twitter/X to send a beautiful message to Tony Khan, who booked Sakazaki Yuka for her last match. The 53-year-old star called Sakazaki, her favorite wrestler, thanked Khan for including her in her last match.
"Hello @TonyKhan! I appreciate you that I could wrestle Yuka🙇♀️ @YukaSakazaki is my favorite wrestler.She is so Amazing! AEW is so lucky to have her🙌🏻 I never watch AEW on TV. But if she will be on TV , I and MORE people will watch AEW on TV for 1000000%sure🙌🏻Thank you," she wrote.
Sumie Sakai has been a pioneer in AEW's sister promotion ROH
Sumie Sakai has been a true trailblazer for the women in wrestling. She began her career in Japan in 1997 and competed in multiple promotions, becoming renowned.
The Japanese star is best known for her fantastic stint in Ring of Honor, which began in 2002. Sakai was crowned the first-ever ROH Women of Honor World Champion and went on to have one of the longest reigns in the company.
With her 27-year illustrious career in the wrestling world concluding at NJPW Battle at the Valley, it will be interesting to see the next chapter of Sumie Sakai's life.
