AEW kicked off 2025 with several top stars gunning for Jon Moxley's World Championship. Now, WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett has staked his claim on the title.

Jarrett joined All Elite Wrestling in late 2022. He's worn several hats in the promotion, both on camera and backstage, and he remains in the mix at 57 years old. The six-time WWE Intercontinental Champion recently revealed that he'd re-signed with Tony Khan's promotion and that this would be his last contract as an active talent.

Before he hangs up his boots, Jarrett wants a shot at the AEW World Championship. He made his case in a recent appearance on the Battleground Podcast, claiming that several of his colleagues had told him to make the most of his final run:

"I called some guys in this business and also some guys out of the business, and I had in-depth conversations on, ‘What do you think? Is it time to hang it up? Should I finish? Should I just keep my business cap on?’ To the man, they all said, ‘Jeff, I don’t think in your heart of hearts you’re ready to hang it up.’ Each of them, the first person to say this was my partner Jay Lethal, Jay was like, hey man, we appreciate everything you’ve done for us, but this is your last contract, because I’d kind of made up my mind that this was gonna be my last contract, if this your last contract, swing for the fences. I kept hearing that."

Double J then expressed his desire for one last shot at glory:

"When I stepped back and I looked, I said, you know what? What a way to go out. I could fall flat on my face going for this, but I’m going to give it my all. Hopes of all hope, I’m going for the world title. I want one shot at it. It’s not like I’m begging and yearning like I was as a kid for a long title reign. Our old friend Toby Keith would often say, ‘Ain’t as good as I once was, but I just need to be good once as I ever was.’ So I just need the one shot, and that’s what I’m shooting for. I want the AEW World Title, one shot." [H/T: Fightful]

Jeff Jarrett may transition to AEW commentary after his retirement

Many wrestlers have remained in the business even after hanging up their boots. Jeff Jarrett, who has been around the wrestling industry for his entire life, has plenty of options in AEW.

In the same interview on the Battleground Podcast, Jarrett mused over the possibility of transitioning to a commentary role after his in-ring career is over:

"I’m gonna take it one day at a time. When I originally signed with AEW a couple of years ago, that wasn’t, as the kids say, on my bingo card. But they asked me to fill in once—I did an analyst spot for Zero Hour, then another spot on Zero Hour, and later a two-hour Dynamite and a one-hour Rampage. It just kind of happened by luck, and I realized, ‘Man, I kind of like this. I love this.'"

Fans have enjoyed the former WWE Superstar's analysis on the company's Zero Hour pay-per-view pre-shows. Whether Double J wins the AEW World Championship or not, it's almost certain that Tony Khan will have a position open for him.
