The legendary Sting's lengthy career will ultimately come to an end at AEW Revolution 2024, as announced by The Icon himself. However, could Tony Khan take a note out of one of the biggest wrestling retirements this year?
Few stars have had careers to match Sting's, but Keiji 'The Great Muta' Muto is considered a living legend amongst Japanese wrestlers. Earlier this year, Muta had a high-profile retirement event that included numerous other veterans.
During a recent appearance on McGuire on Wrestling, Dave Meltzer briefly recalled personally contacting Tony Khan in order to make sure that The Icon has a similar send-off.
"I don't remember if I sent, talked or emailed Tony Khan, but I definitely contacted Tony Khan after that final NOAH match that [Great] Muta wrestled and I go, 'This is your template.' Whenever it comes time for Sting, look for this for ideas because [Pro Wrestling] NOAH did such a phenomenal job," Meltzer said. [H/T WrestlingINC]
The Icon seems to be seriously wrapping up his career, as it was announced that he will be attending the upcoming Squared Circle Expo. While the veteran might participate in such events more often after retiring, this will be one of the last times fans can hang out with him while he is an active wrestler.

Rob Van Dam is up for being the man to retire Sting next year
With a legendary career coming to an end, it is only right that The Vigilante's final match at AEW Revolution 2024 is a blockbuster. However, to have a blockbuster match, Sting's opponent will have to be a bonafide legend himself, and who could be better than Mr. PPV?
In a recent episode of his 1 Of A Kind podcast, Rob Van Dam offered to be the man to retire The Icon.
"I'll put him out. [...] I'll put him out to the pastures. Why not?" Rob Van Dam said.
It remains to be seen if this will ultimately be the case, as The Stinger has many options for a final opponent. Only time will tell, but fans might not have to wait for too long, as the AEW Revolution has almost always taken place in March.
