Top AEW star Adam Cole recently shared a cryptic message on social media. His post potentially hints at his plans for returning to the promotion.
The Panama City Playboy's debut in the Jacksonville-based promotion at All Out 2021 was one of the most memorable moments in AEW's history. He carried over significant momentum from his previous four-year tenure in WWE. However, his run in the Tony Khan-led company has been a subject of debate among fans, as it has been marred by questionable booking and untimely injuries.
Adam Cole appeared at Double or Nothing 2024, cutting a promo about his inevitable return to in-ring action. However, he would be interrupted by the AEW comeback of his former friend and tag partner MJF, whom he betrayed and had assaulted by members of his new faction, The Undisputed Kingdom. At Worlds End 2023, Cole revealed himself to have been the individual in the Devil mask who had been plaguing Friedman and his allies.
The Wolf of Wrestling feigned reconciliation with Cole at Double or Nothing before delivering a low blow and then a devastating brain-buster to the latter. The former WWE NXT Champion would be carried out of the ring afterward, while MJF stated that he would never make the error of trusting people like he did Cole ever again.
Although still on hiatus, Cole recently took to X/Twitter to post a photograph of himself with Friedman when they tagged together as Better Than You BayBay, with an interesting caption. In the picture, Cole can be seen looking at MJF's AEW World Title, suggesting that he may pursue the company's top prize upon returning. Alternatively, the photo could potentially hint at Cole's intention to go after Friedman's newly rechristened American Championship.
"Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life," wrote Cole.

Former AEW World Champion MJF claimed Adam Cole will never return to wrestling
The evolution of MJF's relationship with Adam Cole, from rivals to tag partners to friends to bitter enemies once again, was one of AEW's more ambitious long-term storylines. Unfortunately, it did not have a proper resolution, especially after Cole suffered an injury last year, which put him on the shelf for an extended period.
According to The Salt of the Earth, however, the feud between him and the former ROH World Champion is already over. During an appearance on the Casual Conversations podcast, Friedman avowed with confidence that he had taken out Adam Cole for good at Double or Nothing 2024 and claimed that the latter will never return to the ring.
It remains to be seen if there will be any follow-through to the feud between Friedman and Cole in AEW in the future.
