Adam Copeland has been in AEW for almost eleven months. The WWE Hall of Famer made a mark on the promotion before suffering an injury earlier this year during his second reign as TNT Champion. Copeland has just reached out to one of his longtime friends and rivals in WWE with a special message.
Edge of World Wrestling Entertainment finished up with the company on August 18, 2023, during SmackDown in Toronto. The inaugural Money in the Bank winner picked up a hometown victory against Sheamus in the 19-minute main event. The match was tense at times, and featured an emotional post-match send-off as the Rated-R Superstar waved at wife Beth Phoenix and their daughters in the front row, then hugged The Celtic Warrior to end the show. Copeland's WWE contract then expired on September 30, and he debuted for AEW the very next day at WrestleDream.
The Ultimate Opportunist took to Instagram today to mark one year since his final match with WWE. The 32-year industry veteran shared a photo of his post-match embrace with Sheamus and a backstage photo of the two sharing a pint of Guinness. Copeland captioned the post with a two-word nod to The Celtic Warrior.
"Cheers Fella @wwesheamus," Adam Copeland wrote with the photos below.
Copeland has been out since suffering a fractured tibia in his win over Malakai Black on May 26 at Double or Nothing. He has expressed some regret over the scary injury bump from the Barbed Wire Steel Cage match.
The veteran is expected to be back between October and December but was stripped of the title, ending his second TNT Championship reign at 70 days.
Updates on WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland and his AEW status
Adam Copeland has not wrestled in 84 days. He has been on the shelf since suffering the leg injury at AEW Double or Nothing on May 26, while defeating Malakai Black in the Barbed Wire Steel Cage match.
There have been a lot of rumors and speculation on Copeland's potential AEW return as the company approaches All In and All Out. However, a new report from Fightful Select notes that the return date for The Ultimate Opportunist is still not clear, and no firm date has been decided. It was also stated that Copeland's condition is "good" as of this past week.
Copeland underwent surgery around nine days after suffering the injury at Double or Nothing. It was noted then that a broken tibia can take four to six months to heal, depending on severity and other factors. The speculation at that time had the two-time TNT Champion returning to the ring sometime between early October and early December of this year.
