Swerve Strickland took on Blackpool Combat Club member Wheeler Yuta in a non-title match on the August 14, 2024, episode of Dynamite. The New Flavor defeated the former ROH Pure Champion dominantly, forcing the referee to stop the match after destroying Yuta and peppering him with strikes to his face.
Bryan Danielson, who was present ringside for the bout, rushed into the ring to stop Swerve from continuing his attack on his protege. Strickland then grabbed a microphone on his way backstage and told the former WWE Champion that he would not only hurt and retire him at AEW All In 2024 but also that he would cripple Danielson in front of his daughter.
The 33-year-old star then launched a sneak attack on Danielson, taking him out with a House Call and mockingly performing the latter's signature "YES!" chant afterward. With this move, Strickland seemingly turned to the dark side ahead of his upcoming AEW World Championship match.
It remains to be seen if a fired-up Danielson can win the AEW World Championship later this month.
