AEW Collision is set to air tonight following the NBA Playoffs clash between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, and a former champion has been advertised to make his much-anticipated return to Jacksonville-based promotion.
Rey Fenix is a foundational star in All Elite Wrestling and is a former International, World Tag Team, and World Trios Champion. The Mexican high flyer has been out of action since October 2023 after reportedly suffering injuries. He last wrestled Orange Cassidy on the Title Tuesday episode of Dynamite last October, where he lost his International Championship.
Fenix was rumored to require hip replacement surgery, but that was later debunked. However, it's clear that he's been recovering, as he hasn't stepped into a wrestling ring in over six months.
In a surprising announcement, All Elite Wrestling alerted fans that the popular luchador will make his return to television tonight on AEW Collision. He is set to face off against The Beast Mortos (fka Black Taurus) in a singles match.

AEW's Rey Fenix referred to his injury as the "worst" in his last status update
Although he's been out of action for months, Rey Fenix has kept fans in the loop as he recovers. He's suffered some gruesome injuries before—most famously when his arm bent the wrong way during a tag team match against Jack Perry and Luchasaurus in early 2022—but his latest seems to have been even worse.
Speaking with Denise Salcedo in January, the 33-year-old provided an update on his status:
"We are working on the recovery. I think it’s the worst injury, but I’m taking my time. I’m doing a good job on my recovery. I put everything with the doctors. I’m following the doctors, I’m doing my best, and I think I can’t talk so much about it, but soon. Soon, I will be in the ring, doing Lucha Libre, doing the thing that makes me so happy."
Rey's tag team partner and real-life brother, Penta El Zero M, has been involved on AEW TV over the last few months, but whether the two will reunite and go after their old rivals, The Young Bucks, remains to be seen.
