An episode of AEW television was previously set to clash with WWE SummerSlam 2024. However, the company has now managed to avoid this clash.
SummerSlam is set to take place on August 3 in Cleveland, Ohio. This year's show will be main-evented by Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa, who will battle for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Since SummerSlam is taking place on a Saturday, it was set to collide with AEW Collision which wouldn't bode well for the Tony Khan-led promotion.
In the past, whenever AEW and a WWE PLE have clashed, the sports entertainment juggernaut has always emerged as the victor. A good example was the recent Money in the Bank PLE. That week's episode of Collision only drew 306,000 viewers and a 0.08 in the 18-49 demographic.
Hence, AEW has taken a precautionary step this time. TNT's website lists the start time for Collision as 5 pm EST which is three hours earlier than its usual start time of 8 pm EST. SummerSlam is set to begin at 7 pm EST.
Booker T praised Damian Priest ahead of his title defense at SummerSlam
Ever since winning the Money in the Bank briefcase, Damian Priest has managed to establish himself as a top star. He went on to cash in his briefcase to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40. Now, Priest is set for the biggest challenge of his life as he defends his title against Gunther.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T was all praise for Damian Priest's run as World Heavyweight Champion.
"Damian's [Priest] been doing a hell of a job. What I appreciate about Damian is they've [WWE] been letting him go out there and get the work done all by himself. He hasn't had a lot of outside interference in his matches or anything like that. He's been going out there showing that he can compete, not compete but perform at the highest level," said Booker (1:21:32- 1:21:54)
It will be interesting to see if Damian Priest will be able to retain his title against Gunther.
