AEW has made major changes to the weekly Collision show on TNT. After doing away with a theme featuring a legendary name, many fans have responded negatively to the new Saturday sound. AEW's lead composer made some very interesting remarks in response to the criticism.
All Elite Wrestling launched Collision last summer with "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" as the theme, co-written and recorded by the legendary Elton John in 1973. The song choice brought some mainstream attention to AEW's latest show.
In recent weeks, some Collision episodes had no opening theme, and this week, a new song was revealed for the Saturday night show: "Red Light Is On (Let's Go)" by AEW Music lead composer Mikey Rukus and vocalist Omega Sparx.
Fans seemingly responded to the new theme with negative feedback. Rukus took to X this weekend to address the criticism. The veteran producer admitted he knew fans would not like the new Collision song, but he and his team are satisfied, and no changes will be made based on feedback.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"Hey guys. Its ok. I knew it would be universally hated. Theres no such thing as an upgrade from Elton. Change is inevitable. We tried something different with the college/gogo cadence. I knew many would t get it. Again, it’s ok. I’m happy with it, my team is happy with it. It’s not changing. [saluting face emoji]," Mikey Rukus wrote.
AEW just celebrated the one-year anniversary of Collision on June 15. The 54th episode aired this past Saturday, and the next Collision special will be the Grand Slam edition on September 28, which tapes on September 25 from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, NYC.
New champions crowned on AEW Collision
All Elite Wrestling has crowned The Patriarchy as the new World Trios Champions. Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, and Killswitch won the vacant titles on Saturday's live Collision.
The Bang Bang Gang was stripped of the unified World Trios Championship earlier this month by interim Executive Vice President Christopher Daniels due to Jay White suffering an injury. The champions wanted to use the Freebird Rule with Juice Robinson teaming with The Gunns, but Daniels denied the attempt.
Saturday's Collision episode saw The Patriarchy defeat The Bang Bang Gang's Robinson, Austin Gunn, and Colten Gunn. The 13-minute main event ended when Shayna Wayne sprayed Robinson in the face with hair spray as he tried to finish Cage off.
The Patriarchy are the 7th team to win the titles, which were introduced at All Out 2022 with The Elite as inaugural champions. The belts were then unified with Ring of Honor's World Six-Man Tag Team Championship at Dynasty this year as then-ROH champions The Bang Bang Gang defeated then-AEW champions The Acclaimed in a Winners Take All match.
