AEW has just announced some upcoming changes that will have major implications for the Worlds End pay-per-view taking place next month. These were about the Continental Classic Tournament.
This week's edition of Dynamite will see the official start of the tournament, with Kazuchika Okada putting his Continental Championship on the line against 11 other competitors in a round-robin tournament.
The commentary team explained tonight that there will be one major change in effect during this year's edition of the annual tournament. It was revealed that the top two of each league would advance to AEW Worlds End.
This means that a total of three matches will be taking place at the pay-per-view this year, instead of just the finals taking place.
The first will be the two semi-final matches putting the Blue League winner against the runner-up of the Gold League and the Gold League winner against the runner-up of the Blue League. The winner of these matches will face off later in the night in the finals, with the title on the line.
Last year, it was Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley who advanced to AEW Worlds End. The Mad King ended up winning it all and became a triple crown champion at the pay-per-view. It remains to be seen who will claim the crown this year.
