#1. Tony Khan opens up on Sting and Darby Allin working together in AEW
AEW boss Tony Khan spoke about Darby Allin and Sting's on-screen working relationship on Z100 New York with Josh Martinez.
Darby Allin was built as a rising star in AEW from the beginning, with feuds against the likes of Jon Moxley. There were always similarities with Sting in WCW, and Khan wanted to pay homage to The Icon.
However, according to the AEW Boss, Sting did not know about this.
“I was building up Darby before I knew Sting was available. Darby was being built up as a top star, and I had Darby up in the rafters almost like the next generation of Sting, really an homage to Sting. And Sting didn’t know this, and he hadn’t been watching wrestling, and we talked. Now, look, up almost a year later, he’s had these matches. He’s so into it. He works his ass off, and he’s such a great person. When he first talked to me, I said, ‘There’s a young kid, please look at him because I think you’d be so great together and it’d be such a great pairing.’ And now, in real life, they’re such close friends, and they’re such a big part of each other’s life". said Tony Khan (H/T Wrestling Inc)
Sting and Darby Allin have been together for the entire year, winning every match they've teamed up in. Their last win came at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam over the FTR.
The Vigilante has consistently defied expectations with his in-ring work, not just against the FTR but in his matches against 2point0 and Men of the Year. It has been amazing to see Sting inside the squared circle again, and hopefully, we'll continue to see him wrestle for as long as possible.
