AEW EVPs The Young Bucks are currently on hiatus after dropping their Tag Team Championship to Private Party, but they originally had a creative plan for the titles. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson have now revealed that they had to scrap their idea once WWE began a similar angle.

The Young Bucks won the vacant AEW World Tag Team Championship back in April but only defended it sporadically until Private Party knocked them off. However, they originally wanted to determine their challengers each week with an "Elite Roulette."

In a recent appearance on Social Suplex Podcast Network's Tunnel Talk, the EVPs described the idea of spinning a wheel each week to bring out a different set of challengers, with the final team squashing them in a matter of seconds:

"Originally, I wanted it to finally land on—well, I don’t even know if I should give that away, because that’s probably something we could do in the future. I wanted it to land on a very specific team. I wanted it to land on a very specific team, and I wanted them to maul us in four seconds. Oh my God, and I thought it would have shocked everyone. That was my big plan, and we would have dropped the titles that way, originally. Right? Wow, and we were going to do this."

A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.

Unfortunately for The Young Bucks, they were alerted that NXT had recently revived WCW's old "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" concept ahead of Halloween Havoc 2024, and they were forced to abandon the idea:

"This was set and sewn, and then one day, I think it was Sonjay [Dutt] who sent us a text and said, ‘Hey, hey, about your idea,’ and he sent me a thing, and it was like, I guess NXT was doing a Spin the Wheel, Make a Deal thing. Right? Oh no, you gotta start it like that special or something. We were like, ‘Dang,’ I’m like, ‘Well, it was one of those situations where I was so excited for this idea to pay off, like to finally fight four or five random teams and finally drop the titles, and like I said, Ultimate Warrior/Honky Tonk Man style in like five seconds. And I had to just—I had to just give it up." [H/T Ringside News]

The Young Bucks escape to Japan amid Jon Moxley's rampage

After dropping their Tag Team Championship, The Young Bucks disappeared from AEW television, indicating that they would work from home while Jon Moxley and his Death Riders rampaged throughout the company. However, in doing so, they abandoned their protege, Jack Perry.

The Scapegoat was subsequently humiliated and lost his TNT Championship, but the Bucks recently hinted that they would make it right. The Jackson brothers caught up to Perry at NJPW Strong Style Evolved earlier this month and asked to speak with him off-camera.

Matthew and Nicholas are also set to compete against Great-O-Khan and a mystery partner at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5. With Moxley ruling the roost and Kenny Omega having returned to AEW, it could be a while before The Young Bucks attempt to show their faces in All Elite Wrestling again.
