AEW star Athena (fka Ember Moon) made a heartbreaking announcement regarding her immediate in-ring future. The announcement is a bad one, and it will have implications moving forward.
Despite working for AEW, she is also the longest-reigning Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. She won the title in December 2022 after defeating Mercedes Martinez at the Final Battle event.
It was reported last month that Athena had injured her leg during the tapings of an ROH show. It was also reported that the injury was not that bad and that she would be back in a few weeks. Unfortunately for her, that does not seem to be the case, as she confirmed the extent of the injury.
On the Ring of Honor show, Athena revealed that she would be out for four to six months, but she would not vacate her world title. That brought out huge cheers from the fans in attendance and also proved how big of a fan favorite she is.
It will be interesting to see how her character will develop now that she said that she won't be vacating or relinquishing her title as is always the case in the case of an injury.
