AEW star Nigel McGuinness is fine if he doesn't get to wrestle again. The former ROH World Champion said he got closure after his latest match against Bryan Danielson.
McGuinness returned to the ring after 13 years at All In 2024, where he participated in the Casino Gantlet Match. A month later, he locked horns with his long-time rival, The American Dragon Bryan Danielson, at AEW Grand Slam.
The 48-year-old recently appeared as a special guest on the Talk in Jericho podcast. During the interview, Chris Jericho asked him whether there was a chance he would wrestle again. In response, McGuinness said he might compete again but was okay if he did not get to wrestle in the future.
“There’s always a chance. And certainly, now that I’ve realized—I don’t want to say it’s not as difficult as I thought it was because it is obviously very difficult—but I think I didn’t give myself enough credit for being able to do it and I think I listened to too many people. (...) Certainly, I’m open to the possibility but if I don’t wrestle again that’s okay as well. As I said, I’ve had closure and we’ll see what happens, what dreams may come.” [H/T: Wrestling Observer]

Nigel McGuinness was supposed to wrestle at AEW All In 2023
During the same conversation with Chris Jericho, Nigel McGuinness revealed that AEW originally planned to bring him back last year at All In. However, Bryan Danielson was injured at the time. Therefore, the plan got nixed.
"The first Wembley, I was ready to go, and in ring shape, but Bryan broke his arm in a match with [Kazuchika] Okada. That didn’t work, there was ideas of maybe I could be in this match or that match, but I didn’t want to be an add-on, I wanted it to really mean something," McGuinness said.
McGuinness wanted his return match to be against Danielson, but the latter was already part of a storyline, so it couldn't happen. But the veteran ended up facing the AEW World Champion on Dynamite: Grand Slam.
