A particular AEW talent was sidelined with an injury for seven months. However, he recently made his long-awaited in-ring return.
El Hijo del Vikingo is one of the most entertaining prospects to come out of Mexico. He is known for his lucha libre style of wrestling. Vikingo first made a name for himself in AAA where he previously held the promotion's Mega Championship.
His in-ring skills earned him an opportunity to compete in AEW against the likes of Kenny Omega and FTR. However, his career took a drastic turn earlier this year when he had to undergo surgery for a ruptured ligament and damaged meniscus. As a result, Vikingo had to relinquish his AAA Mega Championship - a title he held for 833 days until that point.
Since then, he was out of the spotlight until recently. AAA held a series of tapings in Gimnasio Nuevo León Unido in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico which will be aired at a later date. During these tapings, El Hijo del Vikingo made his blockbuster return and even competed in a Trios Match alongside Octagon Jr. & Laredo Kid against Belcegor, Emperador Azteca, and Taurus. The AEW star's in-ring return was triumphant, with his team emerging victorious.
This was also El Hijo del Vikingo's first match since his participation at an AULL event on 17 February, when he teamed with Psycho Clown and Wotan against El Negocio Traumado (Trauma I, Demonio Infernal, and Fresero Jr.).
AEW star El Hijo del Vikingo was attacked by Alberto El Patron before his return
El Hijo del Vikingo and Alberto El Patron have some history together since they teamed up last year in four matches. However, El Patron now holds the AAA Mega Championship, which was held by Vikingo, before the latter's injury.
As a result, El Patron attacked Vikingo backstage before he could head out for his big return match. This could be the start of a new rivalry between these two former allies in AAA.
It will be interesting to see if El Hijo del Vikingo will be able to regain the AAA Mega Championship, a title he never lost in the first place.
