A top AEW champion recently revealed he was approached by AJ Styles to join WWE. The star being discussed is Will Ospreay. The Phenomenal One has been a mainstay of WWE since 2016. He has been one of the top stars in the promotion and delivers top-notch matches in the company. He is currently a part of the SmackDown roster.
The Aerial Assassin signed with AEW in November 2023 and started performing in the promotion in February 2024, after leaving NJPW. Since then, he has been presented as a top star, even winning the International Championship at the Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View.
When Ospreay was a free agent in 2023, before signing with AEW, reports of him having talks with WWE surfaced.
Speaking in an interview with Adrian Hernandez, Will Ospreay revealed he received a call from AJ Styles to join WWE during his contract negotiations.
"WWE-wise, AJ was the main guy that came and reached out to me just to fly the flag for them. He's my hero, like in any retrospect of how he carried himself in TNA, New Japan, Ring of Honor, he was the man, and the fact that he was trying so hard to get me over there, I can't begin to tell you enough how much I appreciate him and how much I'm so grateful for that moment in time with him," Ospreay said. AJ Styles comments on him calling Will Ospreay
While speaking on Irish Wrestling and Entertainment, the former WWE Champion revealed he reached out to Ospreay because he is 'some of the best in the world'.
"Why would I not want some of the best talent in the world to come to WWE? I mean, I think there are great guys. If he was a d***hebag, I wouldn't him called him. I think he's a great talent and... it's only a matter of time," said Styles.
AJ Styles lost the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at Backlash France.
