Former WWE and current AEW star Bobby Lashley recently shared his perspective on his run in TNA almost a decade ago. He also reminisced on collaborating with his long-time ally and stablemate MVP in the Nashville-based promotion.
The All Mighty made his All Elite debut months after his WWE exit on Fright Night Dynamite, reuniting with Shelton Benjamin and MVP and taking out Swerve Strickland. Lashley picked up a dominant win over the former AEW World Champion at Full Gear 2024 and accompanies The Franchise Playa and The Gold Standard on AEW television.
During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Bobby Lashley discussed first working alongside MVP in a group also involving Kenny King in TNA after signing with the promotion in 2014 and revealed that The Ballin' Superstar was set for a run with the promotion's World Championship. However, an injury suffered by MVP overseas led the company to put the belt on Lashley instead.
"So the first time we really did stuff together was at Impact, at TNA, and I wasn't even supposed to be there... And then, after I signed, it was like, alright, we're still figuring out where we're gonna go, and then they said, 'Oh, we're gonna put you with MVP and Kenny King, might start this little group, and then we're gonna put the title on MVP, and then We're gonna go with it.' Then MVP goes overseas and blows his knee out... And they were like, 'Well, maybe we switch gears, maybe we can have Bobby go through and grab the title,' and I did," Lashley said. The Destroyer spoke further about how his partnership with MVP developed from there:
"And from there, MVP kind of stepped aside, and he was cool with it, and he was like, 'I'll be the hype man!'... It was a group that, we were like, man, we didn't know how hot this was gonna be. But it was good. And we saw the chemistry there. That was the first time me and MVP worked together in that sense, and we were like, 'Man.. this is really good. This is really good.' So we ran with it.." [1:08:45 - 1:09:06]
Swerve Strickland has unfinished business with Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley forced Swerve Strickland to pass out to The Hurt Lock at AEW Full Gear 2024. Things seem far from over between The Realest and the former WWE Champion.
This week on AEW Dynamite, Swerve soundly defeated Max Caster, incidentally a recent Hurt Syndicate prospect. After the bout, Strickland vowed to dominate the rest of 2024 and indicated his sights are still set on Bobby Lashley.
It remains to be seen whether the two will lock horns again at Worlds End 2024.
